in a family of magically gifted curse machine operators Cassel Sharpe the only "non- factories. Under his relatives, he is precisely why an outsider. On the other hand, is a loner school Cassel, as he No one believes he actually is not a curse yourself. The only thing it is really important is his family. To distinguish between his brothers not to go down and to preserve the last bit of prestige that remains to him, Cassel gaunert through life. But when he is sleepwalking one night and meets a mysterious white cat, he begins to seek the truth about a debt that haunted him for three years. Only if he the true circumstances of the worst night of his life will be like, Cassel still has to find out.
opinion:
Holly Black's world offers the curse yourself a fresh and successful construct Cassels for history. Pirates of workers are a large minority in society, have a bad reputation and have been and are still partially covered by those in power like serfs. Nevertheless, each of them is proud of his skills. Thus, in Cassels family several talents find a more powerful than the other. Especially by the lack of a proper curse plant Cassel has a hard time. He constantly feels pressured to have to prove why he is lying to everyone around him over the ear or skin. What is the reason that he has no friends. He is someone who tries to take care of yourself and to keep away from other people. His lack of worker skills are not the only reason, because Cassel has a man on his conscience.
taking advantage of this position, Holly Black Cassel sent to the search for the mysterious white cat that ever happened to him. What role do they play, they learn together with the reader in the course of history. Some of Cassels discoveries remain unfortunately quite predictable. Too much is not to know the surprise, since the references are scattered but rather obvious. The only thing that could surprise me was the round end that there was so little in a series that I've read so far.
The biggest shortcoming for me, however, are clearly the characters. I do not know if it was because I had higher expectations from Holly Black, but none of their characters has stayed with me in the long term in mind. This is not because the author not make an effort to develop these stories, but rather because no one is really nice. Cassel gaunert in part by the ruthless history. Of course, the already indicated in the excerpt and I found this approach even more interesting. Holly Black has just the right amount for me wrong, the boundary that Cassel of a lovable rascal of a selfish boy, makes the has problems with trust and truth. He has an explanation for his behavior, but to me this is not enough for him to constantly monitor the lies and cheating. Yet he is not a protagonist, I did not like. It happens to me quite often, but I am simply Cassel towards neutral. I felt while reading it not to be extremely interesting or likable, but was not so much annoyed by him, as of so many female protagonist. So my little problem starts with character white curse but at first, because Cassel me was almost more like best, though his feelings were alien to me strange. His mother is superficial and ill, his brothers have brought me through their behavior often to the head shaking. A female character should be released, strong, affects me only as a spoiled brat, the love being admired and much prefer the shots. Only minor roles such as Sam, Danica Cassels and grandfather have a reasonably positive impression left on me. When you consider what a good breeding ground offers the world the curse of successful magicians gray characters, this is even more astonishing.
And as already mentioned, I can imagine this little round end of what could happen in a second or third volume. Not even in the good sense, because there are still interesting opportunities and would be interesting story lines that could be taken up. No, rather because the two or three things that will later play a role likely to leave me pretty cold. Unfortunately, this is the unapproachable characters and a sometimes designed into debt-acting, very slowly developing plot. This book makes me feel not let go of that Holly Black would have to decide against a trilogy, because her book would have done well. It is precisely at the start line up against each other rather unspectacular events, which contribute to barely won that one can empathize with Cassel.
White Curse For me, a book in between. Too bad, because Holly Black much more from their world would be able to remove the curse yourself. Predictable twists, unsympathetic characters uninteresting to me make a better assessment is not possible. The book I could not quite convince. However, those who like to read from the male perspective and has no problem with players who do not show themselves at their best can still take a look into the book.
