opinion:
The sarcastic and sometimes impulsive Grim main character takes the reader into the world of gargoyles. This is populated by many other creatures, like goblins, gnomes, demons and fairies, which gives the story a great and credible background. Grim itself is not like other gargoyles. As one of the few Schattenflügler and volcano-born, which are also rare, he has a little special. Most of all he is different from the others but in his emotions, such as impulsivity above, of which he is guided and sometimes unintentionally. These characteristics have made Grim for me very nice. After the first few pages if I had many a comment from him smile. In it combine the strengths and weaknesses, making it complex and endearing.
But Grim is not the only main character. Every other chapter is told from the perspective of Mia. A girl whose father lost his mind and that is an outsider himself. Mia has her life longed for something without knowing what it was. But after you meet twice a curious stranger, she asks the only person in the world for help, which you can think of: her brother Jacob. Mia is a strong, young girl who does not shrink from danger. I liked her determination and that they act in every situation, already almost stubborn insistence. For me, it does so is a pleasant change to the female protagonists, who have nothing to do but to rave about as the principal male character, or cry because of their own weakness. All that Mia does not usually what I'm really grateful to Gesa Schwartz.
Besides Mia and Grim but also many of the supporting characters extremely successful, as the lively leprechaun draw, because of the supplements I had to laugh out loud several times, and the team of Mia / Grim very good. My personal highlight is small, however, the stone lion Mourier, which has everything to outfit and has a penchant for kitsch and splendor. He seems superficial and is just so funny, but can also surprise really.
"Grim - Seal of Fire" is a thoroughly enjoyable book, with an interesting story that I was never bored. Gesa Schwartz does not invent the wheel at all points of the new fantasy, but her book still sprayed against fantasy, a great voice and wonderful characters. Another praise to the author for that it is not converted to the more than transgress paths out of vampires and werewolves, but has to be related to the Gargoyles, a new species into the game, and this could breathe life skillfully.
On 08 April 2011 published the second volume of "Grim - The Legacy of Light", which I eagerly await. Gesa Schwartz has raised the bar with "Seal of Fire" is created very high, but I trust her to keep this high level.
